Seasonal pricing is fixed for the whole winter, from $650 to $725 plus HST for a single or 1.5-car driveway, $815 for a double, and $1,050 for three-car, paver or stamped driveways.

Family members often book on behalf of a parent. That works well: we send a timestamped photo after every visit, so the person who booked can see the driveway was cleared even if they live across the city or out of town.

Shift workers need the driveway at any hour

Nurses heading to an early shift, people working nights and anyone with an unusual schedule cannot wait for a mid-morning clearing. Service is automatic every snowfall of 5 cm or more, with return visits in long storms, so the driveway does not sit buried. For the earliest starts, priority early-morning clearing is $125 plus HST and moves your home toward the front of the overnight route.

Coming home after a night shift is the other half of the problem. Snow that falls while you are at work can mean a buried driveway when all you want is to park and sleep. Return visits in long storms help keep the driveway usable at both ends of the shift.

Steps, walkways and salt

For seniors in particular, the walkway and front steps matter as much as the driveway. Our walkway and steps service starts at $150. Seasonal salt is $175 and includes freezing rain and refreeze visits, which is when steps and walkways become most dangerous.

• Ask for the path to the mailbox to be included if it is used daily.
• Make sure handrails on steps are solid before winter.
• Keep a light on by the entrance for dark mornings and evenings.
• Choose pet-safe de-icer ($120 seasonal) for homes with dogs.

One of the most useful parts of automatic service is that nobody has to remember to call. Seniors do not need to phone in the morning to ask for a visit. The crew comes every snowfall of 5 cm or more from December 1 to March 31, and the City windrow at the end of the driveway is cleared every time, which matters because windrow snow is the heaviest and hardest to move.
