Why these jobs and snow do not mix

People in these roles often cannot be late and cannot work from home. Hospitals, fire halls, police services and ambulance bases run around the clock, and a heavy snowfall is often exactly when they are busiest. Teachers have a fixed start time and a classroom of students waiting. Having to dig out a car before a 6 a.m. shift, or after coming home from an overnight call, adds stress and physical strain at the worst possible moment.

How seasonal service helps

With a seasonal contract, you do not have to call or book anything. From December 1 to March 31, clearing happens automatically after every snowfall of 5 cm or more. In long storms the crew returns for more visits. The City windrow at the end of the driveway is cleared, so you are not blocked in by the heavy ridge left by the street plow.

After every visit you get a timestamped photo, so you can check from your phone during a break whether the driveway has been done.

Useful add-ons for early starts

• Priority early-morning clearing ($125): puts your property earlier in the route after overnight snow.
• Seasonal salt ($175): covers freezing rain and refreeze visits, when a driveway can turn to glass before dawn.
• Walkway and steps (from $150): so the path to the door is clear when you come home in the dark.
• Pet-safe de-icer ($120): for households with dogs who need walks no matter the weather.

Pricing

Seasonal prices before the discount, plus HST: single or 1.5-car driveway $650 to $725, double $815, and three-car, paver or stamped driveways $1,050. The 5% comes off the seasonal contract. A 30% deposit holds your spot, and the balance is due before December 1. You can pay by cash, cheque, Interac e-transfer to sales@thamesvalleysnow.ca, or card.

Booking for a colleague or family member

If someone in your family works one of these jobs, you can arrange the service for them. Family members can book and pay on someone's behalf, which also makes it a practical gift for a parent or sibling with a demanding schedule.

Thames Valley Snow is fully insured with $2,000,000 liability coverage and WSIB registered. Edges, steps and drains are marked before the season so everything is easy to find under snow.

Planning around shift rotations

Many front-line workers rotate between days, evenings and nights, or work twelve-hour shifts with stretches of days off. A seasonal plan does not care which rotation you are on. Snow is cleared because it fell, not because you remembered to arrange it. That predictability matters when your own schedule changes week to week.

When you ask for a quote, include your typical departure times and how many vehicles use the driveway. If two people in the household leave at different early hours, mention that too. Quotes are measured from City of London maps and aerial imagery, so you do not need to take time off to meet anyone on site, and the fixed price arrives within 1 business day.
