Bigger driveways, bigger snow volume
A longer or wider driveway does not just take longer to clear; it produces much more snow that has to go somewhere. A 15 cm snowfall on a double driveway with a turnaround pad is a serious amount of material, and by late winter the piles can be taller than a car. Homeowners who clear their own driveways on larger lots often find the job gets harder as the season goes on, simply because there is less and less room to throw snow.
This is why planning snow storage before the first storm matters so much on Oakridge properties. Decide where snow goes, and make sure it is somewhere that will not block the view of the street, cover shrubs you want to keep, or melt back across the driveway in spring.
Turnaround pads, parking pads and side entries
Many larger lots have extras: a parking pad beside the garage, a turnaround area, a side entry to a back garage or a second driveway apron. When you request a quote, mention these so they are included in the measurement. We measure every property from City of London maps and aerial imagery and send a fixed price within 1 business day, but it always helps to know which areas you actually use in winter.
Driveways that fit three cars or more are priced at $1,050 plus HST for the season, the same tier as paver and stamped driveways. Doubles are $815, and single or 1.5-car driveways are $650 to $725.
Mature landscaping and hidden edges
Established lots usually come with mature gardens, stone borders, low walls and lighting along the driveway. Under snow, all of these become invisible. Before the season we mark edges, steps and drains so the crew knows where the hard surface ends and the landscaping begins.
- Point out landscape lights, stone borders and irrigation heads.
- Mention any low walls or raised beds along the driveway.
- Note where meltwater tends to pool.
- Tell us about decorative surfaces near the house, which get a raised rubber-edge blade.
Long walkways deserve attention
On a big lot, the front walk can be long and may include several sets of steps. That is a lot of surface to keep safe for visitors and deliveries. Our walkway and steps service starts at $150 and covers the path to the door after each visit. Adding seasonal salt at $175, which includes freezing rain and refreeze visits, keeps the steps safer through freeze-thaw cycles.
Shade is a factor too. Mature trees on larger lots keep parts of the driveway and walkway out of the sun, and shaded spots stay icy long after the rest of the property has dried. Salt matters most in those areas.
Hands-off service all winter
Seasonal service runs December 1 to March 31 and is automatic every snowfall of 5 cm or more. We clear the City windrow at the end of the driveway, return during long storms, and send a timestamped photo after every visit. If you travel in winter, the photos let you confirm the property looks lived-in and cleared. Seniors and front-line workers save 5 percent on seasonal plans.
