Snow removal is a winter-long expense, so it pays to know where the real savings are. Here is what actually lowers your cost with Thames Valley Snow, using our published prices.
1. Choose a seasonal contract over per-visit
Per-visit clearing runs $70 to $85 + HST each time. A seasonal contract is one fixed price for every snowfall of 5 cm or more from December 1 to March 31: single or 1.5-car driveways $650 to $725, doubles $815, and 3-car, paver or stamped driveways $1,050, all + HST. In a winter with many plowable snowfalls, the fixed seasonal price usually works out cheaper, and you never have to call.
2. Use the published discounts
Seniors and front-line workers (nurses, firefighters, police, paramedics, teachers) save 5% on any seasonal contract. Mention it when you request your quote.
3. Only add what you need
- Walkway and steps from $150 (walk plus up to 6 steps $175; sidewalk $90)
- Seasonal salt $175 (includes freezing rain and refreeze visits)
- Pet-safe de-icer $120
- Priority early-morning clearing $125
- Season extension November 1 to April 15, +$95
If you leave late for work, skip priority. If you have no front steps, skip the walkway add-on. If early or late-season snow rarely affects you, the standard December to March season may be enough.
4. Book before the season starts
A 30% deposit books your seasonal plan, and the balance is due before December 1. Booking in the fall also gives time to mark edges, steps and drains before the ground freezes.
5. Count what a seasonal plan saves you besides money
A plan also covers return visits in long storms, clearing the City windrow after the plow passes, and a timestamped photo after every visit. Doing it yourself means buying and storing a snowblower, fuel and salt, and being home to clear the driveway before work on every storm day. Price the whole picture, not just the visit rate.
6. Size your quote correctly
Prices depend on driveway size and surface. We measure using City of London maps and aerial imagery and send your quote within 1 business day, so you only pay for the driveway you actually have. Stamped and paver driveways are priced at $1,050 because we use a raised rubber-edge blade near decorative surfaces.
7. Avoid paying for damage
Cheap service can cost more if a plow catches a garden edge, a lawn or a decorative surface. Marking edges, steps and drains before the season, and using a raised rubber-edge blade near stamped and paver surfaces, protects what you have already paid for. Ask any company how they protect your property before you compare prices.
8. Check insurance before you sign
A low quote from an uninsured operator leaves you exposed if something goes wrong on your property. We carry $2,000,000 liability insurance and are WSIB registered, and we are a member of the London Property Management Association. Ask any company you compare for proof of both before you pay a deposit.
9. Ask what happens in long storms
Some plans include one visit per snowfall no matter how long it lasts. Ours includes return visits in long storms, so you are not left digging out the second half of a big snowfall yourself or paying for an extra visit.
